OUR STORY

Heiki Ernits and Janno Põldma had already made a number of animated films at the Eesti Joonisfilm Studio when they came up with the idea of making a film about the mischievous puppy girl Lotte.

In 2000, they created the TV series, Lotte Goes South, which was warmly received, and so in 2006 they made a feature-length animated film called Lotte from Gadgetville. This was followed by a second feature-length animated film in 2011 called Lotte and the Moonstone Secret.

Both films were successful: they won a large number of international prizes and were sold to more than 50 countries. The Vanemuine Theatre staged three Lotte musicals: Detective Lotte, Cosmonaut Lotte, and Lotte in Dreamland. Many books featuring Lotte were written. Lotte’s creators began to think about a future Lotte Village alongside the films. Eventually, fate brought them together with the young and energetic Rein Malsub, the future creator and director of Lotte Village. That auspicious moment was the start of a long and exciting journey that ended in the construction of Lotte Village in Tahkuranna.

The creators envisaged Gadgetville as an exciting coastal community with colourful houses, home to warm-hearted and eccentric inventors: rabbits, dogs, cats, weasels, and many others.

The main characters in the story are Lotte and her best friends, Bruno and Albert. Lotte has devoted parents and many interesting friends and exciting neighbours.

Lotte Village is open to visitors in summer, but also in winter during the festive season. It is an exciting place for young and old alike. Gadgetville’s residents spend their time playing games, doing handicrafts, practicing sports and talking to younger visitors and their parents. Lotte Village also has a lively theatre scene. Every day, there are around 10 performances of big and small theatre pieces. Because every Lotte Village resident has their own worldview, temperament, and role, the characters show children how to deal with complicated issues through their own words, eyes, and humour.

Whatever their habits, character, or sense of humour, wherever you are in the world, it is clear that “GOODNESS MAKES LIFE BETTER,” and everyone in Gadgetville knows that!
