Episcopal Castle of Haapsalu

Overview

Episcopal Castle of Haapsalu with its cathedral is from the 13th century. The castle was the seat of power of the local authorities until the end of the 17th century. The museum of the castle was renovated some years ago, through which you can also access the cathedral, first mentioned in writing in 1279. The courtyard is free for you, but for the museum, you must buy a ticket. If you are in Haapsalu at the full moon time in August, you can maybe see the most famous ghost of Estonia – the White Lady. She was “she” in sad love story in medieval time. She was immured alive in the wall, because of forbidden love. Her soul couldn’t find peace, and since then, she comes in August at full moon time to the window of the cathedral. You must believe that, come and see!
