Step into Lithuania’s medieval past at Merkinė Hillfort. In the 14th and 15th centuries, one of the country's strongest wooden castles stood here, defending the region against the Teutonic Knights. Today the hillfort rewards visitors with a beautiful view of the meeting point of the Nemunas and Merkys rivers, surrounded by forests.
